Bond Contracts Limited (BCL) was originally part of the Invercargill City Council and specialises in water services, cable installation, and waste collection. BCL has years of experience, an impeccable safety record, and strong relationships with customers throughout Southland. Paul du Mez

Paul du Mez

Paul has been the CEO of BCL since 2009, and Contracts Manager for four years before that. He oversees the three divisions of BCL and managed the company during its transition from part of the Invercargill City Council to a private company. Before working at BCL Paul gained experience in a number of roles such as fitter and turner, secondary school teacher, and business owner.

Paul has worked in Invercargill for many years and his well-established professional relationships are a testament to the high quality of his work. He’s proud of BCL because it’s positive workplace which provides valuable services to the community.

Paul enjoys the challenge of managing 60 staff, and problem-solving and other work with clients. Outside of work his hobbies include classic cars, following sport (especially rugby), and working on his portfolio of properties in Invercargill, Cromwell, and Wanaka.

Russell Wood

Russell Wood

Russell has been with BCL since 1975, and in that time has held several different roles. In his current role as Environmental Services Manager he is responsible for managing the solid waste division of BCL throughout Southland. This includes nine transfer stations and eight kerbside collection trucks.

He started at BCL as an auto electrician in 1975, when it was still the Invercargill City Council Works Department. In 1995 Russell became the workshop manager and then in 2000 started in his current role.

Russell is a reliable member of the team and always gets the job done on time. His favourite thing about working at BCL is working with his staff and seeing them develop. When not at work he enjoys golf, reading, and spending time with his wife and two sons.

Steven Bragg

Steven Bragg

Steven has been with BCL (then part of Invercargill City Council) since 1985 and has a wealth of experience in managing water, drainage, and cabling projects – he’s seen it all. As the Operations Manager, it’s Steven’s job to plan and manage contracts to ensure they’re completed successfully and on time.

He likes to work in the Southland region, as it means that teams can go home at night and still have time to pursue interests outside of work. Steven is an effective communicator and is skilled at matching teams to suitable jobs.

Steven is proud to work for BCL as it invests significant time and money into professional development, adherence to health and safety regulations, and quality assurance. He finds it rewarding to receive positive feedback from clients that reflect the effort and care put into the work done. Outside of work, Steven enjoys watching sports, taking part in quizzes, and exploring the outdoors with his dog and children.

Mark Simpson

Mark Simpson

Mark has been BCL’s Contracts Manager since early 2016, and prior to that he worked at the Southland District Council and Invercargill City Council. He has more than ten years’ experience in construction and civil engineering, as well as a Diploma in Engineering (Civil) from Otago Polytechnic.

He is enthusiastic about overcoming challenges to complete projects safely, on time, and to a high standard. This come through in his work philosophy – “Do it once, do it right.” At BCL in particular, he enjoys the varied technical work that BCL undertakes, and working with such motivated and skilled team members.

Mark is known for effective communication, quick thinking under pressure, and focus on health and safety procedures. When not working Mark likes to spend time with his family and boating on the Southern Lakes.
