Waste Collection

Bond Contracts Ltd (BCL) takes care of municipal waste collection for Invercargill, Gore, and the larger Southland region. For more information about the types of waste collected, the areas serviced by municipal collection, or municipal collection in general, see the WasteNet website.

BCL strive to make recycling as easy as possible in Southland. You can use your kerbside yellow recycling bin or recycle items at one of BCL’s Transfer Stations. The yellow recycling bin is for the disposal of clean recyclables, while the red lid bin is for rubbish. Extra items placed next to, or on top of your bin will not be collected, and please make sure you do not overfill your bin – the lids must be able to be closed for collection.

Items for your yellow lid bin to be recycled include:

  • Clean plastic packaging
  • Paper and cardboard
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • White polystyrene
  • Clean metal cans and tins.

You can put a wide range or rubbish in your red bin including:

  • Household rubbish
  • Food scraps and wrappings
  • Dirty paper, tissues and paper towels
  • Nappies and sanitary products
  • Cold ashes
  • Packaging
  • Styrofoam
  • Broken toys and clothing
  • Dirty or contaminated plastic, polystyrene, tin, steel or aluminum cans
  • Broken glass (wrapped in newspaper please)

What can’t go in the red rubbish bins?

  • Garden waste (green waste)
  • Builders and DIY rubble
  • Construction and demolition waste
  • Hot ashes
  • Infectious material
  • No liquids or viscous fluid (such as paint or ink)
  • Hazardous materials (e.g. Poisonous or toxic waste, flammable or combustible items, explosive or reactive items)

Green waste can be disposed of at BCL Transfer Stations, along with other types of waste – if you have something you wish to dispose of, look at the options available at Bond Contracts Ltd Transfer Stations. To find out what day your bin is collected, enter your address in the WasteNet website.
